Guardians of Our Narrative

No Dream Deferred, a Black-led community-anchored theatre company, in collaboration with the McKenna Museums’, Le Musée de f.p.c., a historic house museum serving as one of the country’s few attractions dedicated to preserving the material culture and legacy of free people of color in New Orleans, offer an immersive and unique historical experience to visitors.

Performers, as culture guides in the Cultural Guardian Acting Company, give character-driven tours to engage with multigenerational audiences from near and far using the storytelling tradition of the theater. Guardians emphasize the impact of individuals of African descent on the city and the indelible marking they have left on all aspects of the culture, from music to cuisine, architecture, and beyond. The culture guides are based on real historical free people of color who lived in New Orleans during the Colonial period of America’s history, creating an enticing and educational experience.

"...this is a must-visit. No other American city has such complex and rich racial and cultural history than New Orleans and the museum highlights this."
— Colin C.

I'm so glad I made sure to visit this place! It's so full of rich history and made me feel such a sense of empowerment.
— Alicia A.

The history of the free people is complex. Nothing like this experience exists outside of New Orleans, if you are visiting and you want something beyond the touristy detritus, run don't walk.
— Pablo S.

I throughly enjoyed learning about the history of free people of color. Everyone was knowledgeable and the treasures in this museum are like none other. I was truly inspired and learned a lot. Everyone should visit to learn black history as told by us.
— Krista M.

My wife and I scheduled our tour and we're guided by a knowledgeable docent who was generous with time and patient with our questions. The museum had a wonderful collection that told some history we hadn't known. The house and grounds were beautiful and we learned they serve meals and the venue can also be reserved for events.
— William M.
